La Bohème by middle-school students

Les Chorégies d’Orange, one of France’s most renowned music festivals, is developing a policy of openness to youth and disadvantaged populations. In 2012, for the first time, Vivendi Create Joy joined in the Introduction to the Opera program.

Launched by Les Chorégies and in partnership with the National Education Ministry, over 400 middle-school students worked all year long on Puccini’s La Bohème, which is on the schedule for this summer’s festival. Professionals working on behalf of Les Chorégies went to meet with young people at schools to present their work and share their enthusiasm.

Some 50 children went even further, getting involved in the production of the stage performance at the Vaucluse auditorium on April 19. This version of La Bohème, full of acting and singing, brought tears to the eyes of many spectators. We’re betting that these students will view – and listen to – opera from a completely new perspective from now on!
